On 6 December 2016, the Council agreed its stance on a proposal to extend the lifespan of the European fund for strategic investments (EFSI), the EU's flagship initiative under its 'investment plan for Europe'.

Urban Innovative Actions: € 50 million of European funds for solutions to urban challenges

58 small and medium-sized companies (SMEs) from 16 countries have been selected for funding in the latest round of the Horizon2020 SME Instrument Phase 2. In this phase of the instrument, each project will receive up to €2.5 million (€5 million for health projects) to finance innovation activities. The total amount to be distributed between the SMEs working on 51 projects is €80 million.

The Annual Compilations of new LIFE projects are now online. From the 2015 call for proposals, the European Commission is investing over €220 million in 144 green and low-carbon projects in Member States.
